Charles Andrew Bothwell (born December 13, 1981), better known by his stage name Astronautalis, is an American alternative hip hop artist currently based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After gaining some recognition in local circles in Jacksonville, Florida and competing at Scribble Jam, Astronautalis self-released his debut album, You and Yer Good Ideas, in 2003. He eventually signed with Fighting Records and the record was re-released in 2005, followed by his second album, The Mighty Ocean and Nine Dark Theaters, in 2006. Mike Mictlan (pronounced meek-lawn) originally hails from Los Angeles, where he began rapping at an early age. By ten he had already decided that it was all he ever wanted to do with his life, and he's stuck to that path through all of the ups and downs. In the mid-nineties Mike spent a year with family in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during which time he befriended several future Doomtree crew members, among them P.O.S, who credits Mictlan with teaching him how to rap. Lawrence Fuller AKA Meta was born January 19th, 1981 in Munster, Indiana and raised in Brooklyn, New York by a working father and a minister mother, Meta was introduced to and involved in music at a very young age. After moving to Minnesota at the age of 8 Meta’s mother became the minister of music at Pilgrim Baptist Church in St. Paul and it is there growing up listening to the Sounds of Blackness where Meta got his musical start.
