Morbid Angel is a Tampa, Florida, United States-based death metal band assembled in 1984. They, along with Deicide, Death, Possessed, Autopsy, Suffocation, Obituary, Massacre and a handful of others were crucial in the development of the death metal genre and its standards. Their songs are complex in arrangement, owing to the considerable technical skills of both guitarist Trey Azagthoth and drummer Pete Sandoval (who also played in the grindcore/death metal band Terrorizer). Dying Fetus are a death metal band from Annapolis, Maryland (USA). The group formed in 1991 and have, ever since, had frontman John Gallagher as the driving force for every release the group has done and performed on. Dying Fetus is known for their consistently hook-laden song structures, characterized by blast beats, complex riffing and heavy breakdowns. Additionally, their reality-based lyrics characterized by political/modern themes are notable in death metal. The band are one of the forerunner bands to popularize the slam movement in death metal. Goatwhore is a blackened death metal band from the swamps of New Orleans, LA. They were formed by well known musicians from the Louisiana metal scene. They first came together in 1996/97 when Sammy Duet (former Acid Bath/Crowbar guitarist) and Zak Nolan (former drummer of Goatwhore, now replaced by Zack Simmons) jammed together as a little sideproject when Acid Bath was taking a break. Decrepit Birth is a Santa Cruz, CA-based technical death metal band formed in 2001 by Matt Sotelo - guitars, Bill Robinson - vocals, and Derek Boyer – bass. Originally the intention was to play devastating, brutal, technical death metal, mixed with influences from the early 1990’s Florida death metal scene. Since Matt and Derek had at one time both played in Southern California band, Deprecated, it was easy for the two of them to begin collaborating on material for the first full length Decrepit Birth album “...And Time Begins”.
