Ancient Mariner is the collective title of works of American instrumentalist Brian Beyke. Brian is an American instrumental (pseudo-ambient/pseudo-fingerstyle) solo guitarist, who began writing in Louisville, Kentucky in 2006. Brian relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio in 2004 for college and while on summer break started writing his first electric, looping style songs he’s come to be known for. Brian quickly gained recognition for his live show where it was shown he could perform all the songs layered with multiple guitar and percussion tracks with out accompaniment. Portage started writing music together in Duluth, MN in early 2011. What was intended to be a somber, acoustic duo quickly changed into something much noisier and more rooted in R&B than they would've imagined. The band quickly found themselves sharing stages and living rooms with bands Trampled By Turtles, Peter Wolf Crier, and The Black Eyed Snakes. Portage now calls Minneapolis their home.
